OUR FRAME MATERIALS
Our frames are all about the art of combining craftsmanship and expertise. We’re perfectionists when it comes to building beautiful, elegant frames, characterised by the use of intelligent, well-founded technology that can be found in the timeless sustainability of our polarised sunglasses.
In order to deliver a flawless quality and attention to detail, we prefer to invest in materials, technology and craftsmanship, rather than on marketing gimmicks.
Our components are meticulously contoured, configured and polished to fulfill our precise thresholds for fit, consistency and quality of finish on all materials available, whether it is Cellulose Acetate (Zyl) or Injection Molded TR90, or our select grade Stainless Steel frames.
Our sunglass frames are built for most uses and environments. This level of commitment extends to our corrosion-resistant stainless steel hinges and protectively coated nickel silver screws, as well as high calibre frame wire and related frame components. We also use some of the best hinges available to ensure a great fit and long lasting durability.
Cellulose Acetate (Zyl) is a natural plastic polymer, manufactured from purified natural cellulose, derived primarily from cotton fibre and wood pulp that is is processed to become compounded Cellulose Acetate Granules. The result: beautifully blended and usually layered laminate acetate sheets.
It is from these Cellulose Acetate (Zyl) sheets that our sunglasses frames are milled and subsequently hand polished to a lustrous finish.
Cellulose Acetate (Zyl) is an hypoallergenic material that can be made into a breathtaking array of colours, patterns and transparencies. As well as lightweight, durable, flexible and strong at the same time.
Cellulose acetate sheets require a ‘curing’ time after being made. The consequence in poorly managed zyl frame manufacture, may result in the temples’ wire cores protruding with the shrinkage of their acetate.
Keeping this in mind, we work tirelessly to mill frames from cellulose acetate allowing the retention of greater acetate ‘solidity’ and minimising the likelihood of consequential shrinkage.
TR90, is a thermoplastic polyamide (a polymer, held together by amide links, that becomes pliable or moldable above a specific temperature and solidifies upon cooling). Molded, it is a wonderful material to use for certain types of sunglass frames, especially for sports activities.
Our TR90 frames are lightweight, extremely flexible yet ultra strong, with a 100% memory that enables them to bounce back to their original shape after bending. They retain their properties at both high and low temperatures, as well as at the extremes of humidity and dryness. Our TR90 frames are ideal for all types of sports and outdoor activities.
Metal frames are commonly used in the sunglass frame manufacture due to its lightweight, adjustability and corrosion resistance. In addition to being lightweight, metal frames are also easy to fashion in many different shapes and frame styles.
Our metal sunglasses begin with the selection of premium quality metals. To ensure that eye-wires and other frame parts are shaped with implacable accuracy, the selection process requires exceptional expertise and technology.
Stainless steel frames are made of an alloy of steel and chromium (which provides excellent resistance to corrosion, abrasion and heat). Our stainless steel frames are polished, lightweight and nickel-free, thus hypoallergenic to the skin. In contrast to many other brands that permit the inclusion of nickel in the alloy, we don’t employ the use of such metal alloys, in its metal frames due to the prospective menace of allergen or hypersensitivity responses.
